Welcome to the Pittsburg State University Libraries Government Documents Department web pages. We hope you will find these pages helpful in locating the information you need. The web pages contain links to information sources provided by the Federal Government, State Governments with an emphasis on Kansas Government sources, Foreign Governments and International Organizations.

The Government Documents Department is located on the third floor of Axe Library. The Library is one of many depository libraries and holds U.S. Government and Kansas State documents. We also receive additional documents from Missouri, Oklahoma and international sources. The Documents collection contains over 500,000 items, including books, periodicals, maps, charts and posters. All subjects are covered from the physical sciences to the social sciences and the humanities.

Items range from the very current (the Federal Register, Congressional Record, Code of Federal Regulations and the Kansas Register) to historical documents, such as the Journal of the Continental Congress and Journal of the Council of Kansas.

The bulk of the collection is made up of reports, studies and hearings published by the various agencies of government at state, federal and international levels. Technical reports dealing with water quality, automobile safety, or the works of artist Benjamin West are just a few examples of materials to be found here. Popular interest items covering a broad range of topics such as health, gardening, income tax preparation and outdoor recreation are also available. Primary data on the population and the economy are available through census publications and other studies.

Feel free to ask the Documents Librarian for assistance with any part of the collection. Most Government Documents can be checked out at the Circulation Desk in the same manner as other library materials.

A portion of the Government Documents Collection is designated as the Documents Reference Collection. These items cannot be checked out, but may be used in the library. They include indexes & abstracts and other high use sources.
