Amazon Insects: A Photo Guide
Gainesville, FL: Feline Press, © 2000

I wrote and photographed this guide book for visitors to the Amazon rainforest who wish to know more about the insect fauna there. It is based on more than 50 trips I have made over the past 12 years to the Upper Amazon of northeast Peru outside the city of Iquitos. It was written as much with the first-time visitor in mind as it was for the biologist. I couldn't possibly cover everything, so I took about a hundred of the biggest, weirdest, most beautiful, and most common insects and arachnids that people would actually have a good chance of seeing as they walk along the trails of an Amazon rainforest. I have had experts in each arthropod group identify most of the creatures pictured down to at least genus. Thus, Amazon Insects - A Photo Guide provides an excellent starting point for learning more about a particular tropical 'bug' that tickles your fancy.

Explorama's Amazon: A Journey Through the Rainforest of Peru
Gainesville, FL: Feline Press, © 2000

For the past 12 years I have traveled throughout the Peruvian Amazon, observing wildlife and taking photographs. Much of this time has been spent at the wonderful facilities of Explorama Tours that are located along the Amazon and Napo Rivers. This book highlights these lodges and the flora, fauna, and people in the tropical forest that surrounds them. I have visited the Peruvian Amazon as a researcher, workshop instructor, tour leader, and wildlife photographer. In putting this book together, I tried to think back to all the various questions that research volunteers and tourists had asked me over the years. I'm sure I didn't remember them all, but I tried to provide a lot of background information on this area of the Amazon. Many of the educator groups I have worked with have shown great interest in the people (ribereños) that live in the area and along the rivers. Thus there is a significant cultural component to the book as well. Finally, I wanted visitors to Explorama to be able to enjoy their stay a little bit more by not having to take tons of notes or photos in order to document their trip. I have done that for them, using the best images of the years I have been traveling there.

Forensic Entomology: The Utility of Arthropods in Legal Investigations
Boca Raton, Fl: CRC Press, © 2001

Insects and other anthropods found at a death scene can provide corroborating evidence regarding both the time and place of death as well as possible antimortem and postmortem treatment of the victim. Nevertheless, most forensic investigators are not specially trained in entomology, and until now, no entomology reference has fully explored these subjects. Forensic Entomology: The Utility of Anthropods in Legal Investigations usurps this void, instructing even individuals without a background in entomology on what to search for when recovering entomological evidence at a crime scene.

Forensic Insect Identification Cards
Gainesville, FL: Feline Press, © 2000

The Forensic Insect Identification Cards are a tool that combines photographic skills, entomological knowledge, crime scene experience, and forensic entomology expertise. This unique guide with 52 color photographs deals with the identification of the insect fauna most commonly encountered on human remains. These cards will be a useful resource to crime scene technicians, medical examiners, forensic investigators, law enforcement officials, and any student of the forensic sciences. Designed for use in the field, they are laminated for durability and held together with a grommet in one corner that allows quick and easy reference to each card. The size of the card deck allows it to easily fit in a pocket or tool kit. The high quality photographs are the result of many years of effort and collaboration with medical examiners and forensic investigators to document the insects found at death scenes and used in the estimation of a postmortem interval.
