Annual Children's Book Festival

In 1998, the Friends of Axe began the annual Silent Auction fundraiser, featuring signed copies of books for children, young adults and adults.

Beginning in 2006, the Friends decided to host a different type of fundraiser: a "Children's Book Festival", which was held on April 22, 2006 from 11:30 AM to 4:00 PM. A display was set up in the East Lobby of the Weede gymnasium, just outside the Lance Arena. Authors from all over the world were kind enough to donate a representative sample of their work, usually signed and frequently decorated with a small drawing or a note. We had books focused toward youngsters of preschool and elementary school age and others to a middle and high school audience. The books were not only signed but offered at 25 percent discount.
