"Dramatic Readings of PSU Faculty Authors (1903-1953)"
Read by Distinguished PSU Faculty

In honor of the memory of Mr. Gene DeGruson, curator of Special Collections at Axe Library, Pittsburg State University until his death in 1997, and in recognition of the Centennial of Pittsburg State University, the Friends of the Leonard H. Axe Library is proud to present its 6th Annual Gene DeGruson Memorial Lecture. The lecture will take place on October 7, 2003 at 7p.m. in the first floor Browsing Area of Axe Library.

This being such a unique and special time in Pittsburg State University's history, the Friends of Axe have decided to commemorate that history with dramatic readings from the works of renowned faculty members who published between the years of 1903-1953. There will be readings from The Sable Arm, by Dudley Cornish, Essentials of Speech, by John Pelsma, Principles of Conducting, by Walter McCray, and poetry by Margaret Haughawout from her collection Sheep's Clothing. Others will include Garfield Weede on athletics, Eugene Larkin on art, and Markwood Holmes on music. Distinguished faculty readers will include Bob Ratzlaff, Steve Scott, Kelly Woestman, and others.

Besides readings there will be musical selections from the 1903-1953 period presented by Paul Carlson, Gene and Linda Vollen, and Paul Smith. A reception will follow the performances.

The Friends of Axe are especially proud to introduce to the public the partial completion of their greatest project to date, the furnishings for the Reading Room of the Special Collections Department. Due to the diligent fundraising efforts of the Friends and the generosity of our local donors, new chairs and tables plus a reception desk have been installed in Special Collections and will be on view.
