Friends Lectures and Events


In addition to the DeGruson Memorial Lecture Series, the Friends of Axe Library sponsor other lectures and events that we feel supplement the educational goals of the Axe library and Pittsburg State University.

Flyer for the April 27, 1998 lecture by Dr. Jim Triplett

April 27th, 1998, 6:30 PM:

Dr. James Triplett, chairperson of the Department of Biology at PSU, delivered an introductory talk, "Too Much or Too Little: Water Resources in Southeast Kansas" at an opening reception for Just Add Water: Kansans Meet the Great American Desert, an exhibit sponsored by the Kansas Water Office and the Kansas State Historical Society. The exhibit was in the Browsing Area from April 27th, 1998 to May 3rd, 1998.


Flyer for the April 25th, 2002 lecture by Dr. Casie Hermansson

April 25th, 2002, 7PM:

Dr. Casie Hermansson, assistant professor of English at Pittsburg State University, read selections from her new book "Reading Feminist Intertextuality Through Bluebeard Stories" (Lewiston, N.Y.: Edwin Mellen Press, © 2001). The event, which was followed by a reception, took place in the browsing area of the Axe Library.


Flyer for the February 17, 2003 lecture by Professor Robert Day

Saturday, February 22nd, 2003, 2PM:

Award winning author Professor Robert Day from Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland, read selections from his short stories on Saturday, February 22nd, at 2PM. (The original date of Monday, February 17, 2003 was cancelled due to inclement weather in Professor Day's home state.) Among his many literary achievements is the very funny, and highly praised novel The Last Cattle Drive. The reading was in honor of Dr. Fred Whitehead of Kansas City, Kansas, who recently established the Whitehead Library and Papers Collection at Pittsburg State University. The reading took place in the Special Collections Department in the basement of Axe Library and was followed by a reception in the first floor browsing area.
