Borrowing: What can I check out and for how long?

Any circulating items may be checked out for three-weeks with three renewals. Items must be returned to the library on or before the due date stamped in the back of the book. Faculty and graduate students at PSU have an end-of-semester loan period. Items must be brought into the library to be renewed.

Magazines and Journals: How can I know if Axe Library carries a specific magazine or journal?

Use the "Serials Solutions" link under the heading "Other Resources" on the Axe Library home page. Enter the name of the journal you are looking for, or search by keyword or ISSN. You may also browse journal titles by starting letter or by subject area.

Where are the magazines and can I check them out?

Axe Library has about 15,000 online journals and receives about 1600 current titles (magazines and newspapers) arranged on open shelves on the 1st Floor. Back issues are kept on microfilm on the 1st floor, or in bound volumes in the basement. PSU Faculty may check out periodicals, for a 3 week period. Other patrons may use magazines and journals in the Library only. Photocopy machines are located in the basement, and on the 1st and 3rd floors.

Reserve Desk: Where do I get items on reserve?

Items placed on reserve are available at the Circulation desk.

Do you have Microsoft® Office programs?

All computers on the 1st floor have Microsoft® Word, Access, Powerpoint and Excel installed.

For PSU students, faculty, and staff their PSU ID card serves at the library card. Residents of the four-state area may be issued Library cards upon presenting proof of residency (such as a driver's license).

Photocopying: Where can I make copies and what is the cost?

Photocopiers are located in the basement and on the first and third floors. The cost is $0.05/page when using your Gorilla/PSU ID card or a Banana Bucks card.

Where can I put money on my PSU ID card?

Use the "Card Value Center" machine located near the Library Circulation desk. The machine accepts bills from $1.00 to $20.00. The Circulation desk may provide change for you. Money may also be added to your card at the PSU Ticket Office in the Student Center

What if I want to make copies, but do not have a PSU ID card?

The Card Value Center machine can also issue a "Banana Bucks" Card. The card will cost $1.00 to purchase. Money may then be added to the card.

Printing in the Library: Where do my print jobs go and does it cost anything?

Fiction: Where are the novels? I want some leisure reading.

Although the Library's collections are developed to support the teaching and research mission of the University, we do have a fairly significant fiction collection. Check the online catalog by title or author. Since the online catalog is a consortium catalog, Pittsburg Public Library's books (and the Pittsburg school libraries) will be found along with Axe Library's titles. The "books" symbol after the title of the book indicates items held at Axe. To browse fiction, go to the second floor. Fiction is cataloged in the 800s. Use the following guide to aid your browsing:

American Literature/Writers: 813 on the 2nd floor of Axe Library.
British Literature/Writers: 823 on the 2nd floor of Axe Library.
The Pittsburg Public Library has many current popular titles.

Textbooks: Does the library have PSU course textbooks?

In most cases the answer is no. There are textbooks for various subjects in the circulating collection, and these can be found using the Library catalog, but these may be old editions or not the exact same title being used in your course. Occasionally professors may place a course textbook on reserve at the 1st Floor Circulation desk. The online catalog record for the item will reflect this location.

Textbooks for currently offered PSU courses are not requested on Interlibrary Loan.

Enrollment: Where can I enroll online?

Online enrollment at PSU is done by using GUS. You need to go the Pittsburg State University homepage and take the link to GUS from there.
