About the Reference Collection
The Axe Library general reference collection contains approximately 15,000
volumes focusing on the academic programs offered at Pittsburg State University.
The materials represented in the collection include:
- Almanacs and Yearbooks
- Atlases and gazetteers (world, country, and regional)
- Biographical sources (biographical dictionaries or directories and subject or field sources)
- Business directories
- City directories (Pittsburg, Kansas City, Ft. Scott...)
- Corporate Annual Reports Collection
- Description and travel brochures for Kansas, the United States and other countries
- Dictionaries and encyclopedias pertaining to specific subjects, such as
medicine, art, science, music, history, etc.
- English language dictionaries
- Foreign languages dictionaries and bilingual dictionaries
- Indexes and abstracts for magazines, journals and newspapers
- Law and legal sources
- Literary criticism, plot summaries, quotations, style manuals...
- Psychological Tests Collection
- Sources for funding, financial aids or scholarship information
- Statistical resources for the United States and abroad, including historical statistics.
