• Library of Congress:
  • Country Studies - Currently, 101 countries and regions are covered. The studies are comprehensive descriptions of the history, geography, society, economy, political system foreign policy, and national security. Originally published in hard copy from 1986-1998 as the Country Studies/Area Handbook Program, the Studies are gradually being updated.
  • Portals to the World - Excellent portal to over 200 countries and regions, many in the language of the country.
• United Nations:
  • Country at a Glance - Provides statistics of member countries; includes environment, technology, health, economy, overview, today's news, and world comparisions.
  • UN Data; a World of Information - 22 databases covering topics from education, employment, energy, food and agriculture, health, HIV/AIDS, human development, indicator databases, industry, technology, national accounts, population, refugees, trade, and tourism. Detailed statistics.
• The World Factbook (CIA) - provides basic facts of each country: people, geography, economy, government, communications, transportation, military, and transnational issues. For each fact it provides icons to link to comparative data for other countries.
