• Cancer.gov - In addition to covering an A-Z list of cancers, find Clinical Trials accepting participants, detailed cancer statistics and research resources.
• CAPHIS: Top 100 List: Health Websites You Can Trust - CAPHIS, the Consumer and Patient Health Information Section, is a section of the Medical Library Association sponsors the "Top 100 List..." as to guide users to a limited list of sites of high quality, credibility and currency.
• Centers for Disease Control and Prevention - The CDE focus is to protect the health of all people. Excellent source for statistics as well as overview and basic understanding of diseases and health issues.
• DailyMed - Provides the contents of FDA medication package inserts. Search by the generic name or the marketed drug name.
• Drug Information Portal - Sponsored by National Library of Medicine, the Drug Information Portal covers more than 15,000 drugs. In addition to summarizing the drug information, links are provided to sources such as scientific journals from PubMed and TOXLINE, and chemical information from PubChem.
• Familydoctor.org - Sponsored by the American Academy of Family Physicians, this site provides excellent coverage of diseases and health problems. In addition find health tools, such as assessments, calculators, trackers, and search by symptom to help the individual monitor his/her condition.
• Go Local Kansas - Sponsored by the KU Med Library, Go Local Kansas is a directory of health facilities, providers and services available in Crawford County, Southeast Kansas, and statewide.
• Healthfinder.gov - Award winning Federal website for consumers developed and maintained by the Department of Health and Human Services and other Federal agencies. Includes selected links from over 1,500 health-related organizations.
• HIV InSite; Gateway to HIV and AIDS Knowledge - Comprehensive site that provides current knowledge on treatment, prevention, policy, statistics, and the online textbook HIVInSite Knowledge Base. Includes "Ask HIV InSite" and "HIV Basics."
• Kansas Health Online - Consumer site developed for Kansas citizens by the Kansas Health Policy Authority.
• KidsHealth - Contains three sections designed for parents, kids, teens. One part of "Kids" includes diagrams, videos, and vocabulary to learn about the body. "Parents " answers questions about parenting, nutrition, and growth and development of children. "Teens" focuses on the body, the mind, diseases, sexual health, nutrition and more. Sponsored by Nemours Foundation.
• MayoClinic.com - Valuable site that includes an A-Z list for a disease or condition; a first aid guide, a symptom checker, and a section on how to "manage a condition." Other useful sections include "Ask a Specialist", a "Healthy Living Center", and several blogs on health related topics.
• Medpedia - A collaborative medical encyclopedia written for medical and lay audiences. Anyone can contribute articles, but only physicians and Ph.D.s in biomedical fields are editors. Over 100 organizations, including major medical schools and global health organizations have joined to provide the initial content. Medpedia is primarily a reference source, but it also serve as a clearinghouse for articles, data, research and a platform for advancing medical knowledge and a forum for debating medical issues.
• Merck Manuals Online Medical Library - Online content of the Merck Manuals.
• NLM Gateway - As a portal for all National Library of Medicine resources, the Gateway searches a wide range of resources for the scientist as well as the consumer.
• WebMD - Broad based consumer site with sections for children's, men's and women's health. Includes a symptom checker and an A-Z list.
