Associations and Societies

• Association of American University Presses (AAUP) - An organization of non-profit scholarly publishers, is dedicated to the support of creative and effective scholarly communications
• Center for Media Literacy - A nonprofit educational organization that provides leadership, public education, professional development and educational resources nationally. Dedicated to promoting and supporting media literacy education as a framework for accessing, analyzing, evaluating and creating media content, CML works to help citizens, especially the young, develop critical thinking and media production skills needed to live fully in the 21st century media culture.
• Daniel Pearl Foundation - This foundation was formed in memory of journalist Daniel Pearl to further the ideals that inspired Daniel's life and work. The foundation's mission is to promote cross-cultural understanding through journalism, music, and innovative communications.
• Kansas Press Association (KPA) - was organized in 1863 to serve, improve and promote the newspaper industry, and to protect the rights of a free press.
• National Cable and Telecommunications Association (NCTA) - is the principal trade association of the cable television industry in the United States. Founded in 1952, NCTA's primary mission is to provide its members with a strong national presence by providing a single, unified voice on issues affecting the cable and telecommunications industry.
• National Press Club (NPC) - was founded in March 1908 to promote free press and provide benefits to journalists. Today the club boasts membership of nearly 4,000, from bureau chiefs to cub reporters, from journalism professors to first-year students.
• Newspaper Association of America (NAA) - A nonprofit organization representing the $55 billion newspaper industry. NAA members account for nearly 90 percent of the daily circulation in the United States and a wide range of nondaily U.S. newspapers.
• Online News Association - was founded in 1999 by several working members of the online press. ONA is open to journalists from around the world who produce news on the Internet and other digital platforms, and to others with an interest in online news.
• Reporters Without Borders - maintains this trilingual (French, English and Spanish) web site in order to keep a daily tally of attacks on press freedom as they occur throughout the world. Updated several times a day, it functions like a press-freedom news agency.
• World Press Freedom Committee (WPFC) - is an international umbrella organization that includes 45 journalistic groups - print and broadcast, labor and management, journalists, editors, publishers and owners on six continents - united in the defense and promotion of press freedom.
