Young People's Concert - February 12th, 2004

On February 12th, 2004, at 9:45 a.m. in the Memorial Auditorium, the Southeast Kansas Symphony Orchestra will present the third in a series of Young People's Concerts. This year, for a slightly older middle-school age audience, we are delving into a chilling story, as relevant today as it was when it first broke many years ago: the issue of runaway children...

We follow the desperate struggle of two children, Hansel and Gretel, as their oppressive existence of forced labor and lack of food drives them out of their home into the dark forest of the streets, while their parents stay behind to revel in their gluttony of food and alcohol.

Witness the gritty story of life on the streets. Follow our pair as they look for shelter, surrounded by animals and strange people with sacks of mysterious powder. See how the bitter quest for survival of these two young children takes them down the dark path of greed, gluttony, theft, witchcraft, mind control, and murrrr...derrrrr...

Years in the making, you will not want to miss this shocking expose of unwanted children, a timeless documentary that blows the lid off of life on the streets - a story that could be ripped from today's headlines. Frightening, yet encouraging, for there is a happy ending to this grimm tale.
