PageWhat a trip! Two weeks after the DUG/HUG Meetings in York, UK, Q trekked in the opposite direction to Adelaide, Australia (via Kansas City, Denver, Los Angeles and Sydney) to attend the CODA 1998 Conference.
Herewith quite a few pages from various aspects of Down Under, including several photos courtesy Mike Shearer, ace CODA photographer. (The "good" photos are Mike's, the ones that look like an amateur shot them, well, they probably are mine!). Click here for Thursday's Photos or Q's Weekend Adventures

Main entrances to the University of South Australia (UniSA) where the conference was held and we met our buses.

Tea time! Susan Johns, PSU; Jo Thyer, Amlibs AUS; Wendy Hogan, Lake Macquarie Public Library; and Patricia Scott, University of Adelaide all share in a spot of morning tea!

Steve Thomas, keeper of the Dynix_L Archives and world-reknown guru of the Eastern Hemisphere, chats with Susan Johns, CODI President in front of the display of photos and memorablia of 10 years of CODA User Group Meetings.

On the left, a well-known Eastern Hemisphere guru, Michael Shearer, from James Cook University, poses in a rare moment when Mike wasn't shooting photos! On the right, a very wise man from the East (and of late, a definite subfield $v guru!): Hal Cain, Joint Theological Library, Parkville, Victoria.

Gurus Mike and Hal converge during tea.

Right around the corner from Luther Seminary is the home office of Telxon, one of our VARs.

On the outer stairs of the University of South Australia, outside our conference meeting rooms, in the sun (and rain)! Michael Metcalf, Vic Roads Library; Susan Johns; Jo Thyer

Q's tour group posing with Ross Welch, Ameritech General Manager, at the Ameritech Offices in suburban Adelaide. While most of the rest of the group met with their CSMs, SAMs and various programmers, Susan got to eat chocolate cake!

Opening reception at the Adelaide Gaol Wednesday Night.

Lest you think we got into the Gaol without any difficulty, we were marched off the buses in rows, told to stand still (which is hard when you're juggling a glass of wine and a plate of food in your hands!), and our friendly guards (the caterers) tried to make us feel welcome as their new charges and inmates. This particular guard immediately sniffed out something amiss as he clearly identified the only Yank in the bunch without difficulty! (It must have been the accent!) Immediately behind me in the suit is Chris Hannan, State Library of Victoria, and in the white, Jennie Cass, St. Monica's College, Victoria.

Touring the Adelaide Gaol, Bob Claxton, Ameritech Manager of Customer Service and Operations, Asia-Pacific Area, and Susan Johns act out an atypical customer/vendor discussion (no doubt about JAD!) in the former visiting area for prisoners.

Susan Johns taking a picture of Mike Shearer!

Wouldn't you know it, the Gaol has a reference library, with books still on display? Mike Shearer catches Susan Johns in the act of actually reading the index!
