Within the catalog, various means of sorting and limiting the collection are available within the iPAC and Dynix telnet catalog interfaces. In addition, all MARC records are mapped to utilize the 049 field in the MARC record for limiting by agency and specific collection designated in the bibliographic record.

The following 049 HOLDINGS CODES can be used in any keyword index in iPAC to locate specific collections and site material. Codes for our consortia partners can be found in the 049 field of the MARC record, which allows one to limit the searches of a particular keyword term to a site-specific bibliographic record. For instance, "LQ6 Berenstein" will limit the Berenstein Bears series to those holdings of Pittsburg Public Library. 049 site-specific codes are as follows:

Codes which have a KFPx code belong to the Axe Library, Pittsburg State University, and designate sub-collections within the bibliographic database. For instance, "KFPB and NASA" as a keyword search would indicate those titles with NASA that are in the reference collection. Codes are as follows:

With the expansion of electronic resources, it is now possible for any KFP code to have a local designation of KFP?X; X, usually indicating it will not be a direct holding on OCLC and is either an ebook or electronic resource of some sort in electronic format local to the PSU catalog.

The following HEGIS CODES can be used in serials/periodicals keyword and title keyword indexes to locate broader subject access for serial and periodical titles, generally broken down by academic department designations here at PSU. The HEGIS CODES are also listed numerically in the title list and serials title list indexes for a sequential ordering. The xx0 code signifies all periodicals in a given subject range, the xx9 code signifies titles currently received, although this is being revised and updated as of October 1999.
