Axe Library Wireless Policy
Pittsburg State University and the Axe Library use WiFi standards IEEE 802.11b and 802.11g. These standards provide up to 54 megabits/second connection speed. Speed will vary by location and number of users.
You will need to use your own laptop or PDA, and it will need to have built-in WiFi or you will need to install a WiFi network card. Axe Library does not provide wireless cards, laptops, or PDAs.
Most WiFi equipment will be compatible. However, the Library makes no guarantees as to compatibility of your equipment with the campus network.
Printers are NOT available to wireless users in the Library. You may download documents to disk and print them at the Library Print Station located in the Axe Lab or other campus labs.
PSU Email can be accessed through webmail. If your student mailbox is over quota, webmail will not allow you in; use a secure-shell telnet to access mail, or go to a campus lab and use telnet to address your quota issue. Wifi will require a secure-shell telnet program if you do not use webmail.
No special passwords are need at this time to access the wireless network. Your PSU login and GUS pin are required for access to Library databases and other patron services.
Axe Library cannot be responsible for any changes you make to your computer's settings, nor will we help you configure your computer. If you need additional assistance, contact the manufacturers of your hardware or software.
WiFi users assume all risks and responsibilities to provide anti-virus protection and appropriate security settings on their laptop or PDA.
WiFi users should be certain that their laptops and other devices are secure at all times and should never be left unattended in the Library, even for brief periods of time. Theft of such devices should be reported to Campus Police immediately (x4624).
