The Leon Divel Memorial

March 2, 2006

The Leonard H. Axe Library is planning a dedication for a memorial in honor of our longtime friend and coleague, Leon Divel. The dedication will take place on Wednesday, March 29, 2006, at 11:00 A.M. in front of the Library on the northwest side of the building.

Leon had a tremendous positive influence on students and faculty at Pittsburg State University during his 35 years at PSU. Not only did his tenure at the University leave a lasting impact on many, he was an inspiration to others through his activities in the community and his church. His life positively touched so many that his friends wish to leave a lasting memorial to Leon on the grounds of the Library.

The dedication will be followed by a reception in the Library browsing area. We hope that you will be able to join Leon's family and friends on this occasion.

Memorial for Leon Divel

In recognition of Mr. Leon Divel's 35 years of faithful service to Axe Library, the staff has commissioned a sandstone memorial on the North side of the building. (See photo) Mr. Larry Miller, multitalented Grounds Maintenance Supervisor of PSU, has created a sculpture which, so far, has six large pieces of sandstone and a Blue Atlas Cedar. When fully finished, it will have English Ivy ground cover, several forsythia bushes and birds' nest spruce shrubs and a bronze plaque on a large flat rock. A memorial service to dedicate the memorial is planned for Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at 11 AM. All members of the Friends are welcome to attend. Library staff members, other University personnel and Mr. Divel's family will also be in attendance.
